Chiropractic & Osteopathy

Chiropractic & Osteopathy are health professions focused on the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of problems affecting the musculoskeletal system – plus the impact on general wellbeing and the nervous system. No part of the body works, or can be considered, in isolation. At Align we consider not only the physical body but also the impact of stress and emotions on your physical form.

What is the difference between Chiropractic & Osteopathy?

Osteopaths & Chiropractors have a similar level of qualification and legal status, and cover broadly the same scope of practice. Both offer hands-on treatment, with osteopathic manipulation tending to involve general, repetitive stretching and mobilisation of an area of the spine. Chiropractic manipulation tends to be joint specific and directional. Chiropractors are also taught to take and read x-rays as part of their training.

What issues can Chiropractic & Osteopathy treat?
  • Lower back pain
  • Whiplash
  • Shoulder pain/neck pain/ arm pain
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Tennis elbow
  • Osteo arthritis “wear and tear” (hip and knee)
  • Migraines/ headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Hip/knee/foot Pain
  • Colic/Irritable infants (CranioSacral therapy)
  • Pregnancy discomfort
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Symphysis pubis discomfort (SPD)

And many more …

How can Chiropractic & Osteopathy help?

It can help people at all ages – including older people, children, sportsmen and women at all levels. In the majority of cases, treatment is aimed at removing nerve compression and irritation often brought on by abnormal alignment or dysfunction of spinal joints. The goal is increased mobility, pain relief and removal of nerve irritation. As well as offering hands-on pain management, it can promote optimum health and give a general sense of wellbeing as the body balances itself.

Both practices can help in a variety of medical conditions, such as general aches and pains – such as joints, cramp and muscle spasms – as well as joint pains, including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis alongside core treatments and exercises. They can treat back pain, shoulder pain, mechanical neck pain as well as arm pain including frozen shoulder and tennis elbow arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions, prevention of migraines and headaches.

Is it safe?

In the UK, Chiropractors & Osteopaths undergo a minimum of four years internationally accredited training, covering topics such as anatomy, neurology, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, radiography and orthopedics, alongside diagnosis and manipulative skills.

Marie-Christine Dix, who leads the team at Align, was part of the award-winning chiropractic team who received the prestigious PPQM and CCQM Awards 2015-2017 from The Royal College of Chiropractors. Chiropractic & Osteopathy are designed to be holistic, non-invasive treatments which are safe and suitable for babies, children and pregnant women and commonly treat patients in their 80’s and 90’s. If you still have any concerns your practitioner can discuss these before your treatment.

Align’s Chiropractors are registered with the GCC for insurance purposes but are “non- members” (listed as non-practicing due to a technical issue the GCC’s end) because the GCC’s legislation does not cover the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. As part of our agreement with the GCC we are regulated by public health in Jersey and follow all GCC guidelines and CPD requirements. We are covered by all major insurance providers as part of this agreement.

How often do I need to see my Chiropractor or Osteopath?

The number of treatments depends on your specific health problem, how long you’ve had it, how severe it is, how many areas and tissues are affected. Healing takes time and varies from person to person. Many patients opt for maintenance care once they feel better.

Can I claim for chiropractic treatment through my private health insurance?

Most health insurance companies will reimburse for chiropractic treatment. It is advisable to check with your health insurer for more information.

What Our Customers Have To Say

I came to Marie-Christine Dix because I was suffering with lower back pain, pins and needles in my legs and pain between the shoulders. My treatments were immediately effective. My pain has eased off considerably and the lifestyle tips that I have been given have helped keep the pain away. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone in need of chiropractic treatment.

Lower back pain & Sciatica

I had a severe scoliosis, disc removed in early 1990s, pain on walking distance or taking long strides. I was apprehensive but found my treatment relaxing with only minimal discomfort. It produced very good results; the initial course of treatment gave relief and I've had no problems since.

Sue De La Mare

I recently brought my nine-month old son, following two months of unsettled behaviour (not sleeping, fussy eating, general unhappiness) - we were at our wits end. After the first few treatments we saw an overall improvement in his mood and behaviour and by the sixth treatment he was sleeping through the night again and being much more active and happy - back to his normal self.

Colicy Behaviour in Baby

After finding out that my headaches were nothing to do with my eyesight, or any other condition, my GP suggested I try a chiropractor. After just a few visits the fact I finished three rounds of golf at the Belfry last weekend was something I thought impossible a couple of weeks before the trip.

Mr S Jewell

After having a very serious fall, I still found myself in considerable pain and contacted Marie-Christine Dix. On her investigating further, it was found I had sustained further injury, but with the help of my surgeon and Dr Marie-Christine Dix I am now on the road to recovery.

Miss Susan Mauger

Back pain following a fall

I have suffered with sinus problems all my life. It has been a great relief what she has done for me. I can breathe properly now.

Mrs P Gueno

I have had a chronically bad back, neck and shoulders for decades due to my work… Whilst I've come to believe there won't be a complete cure for me, for the first time in my working life, I have a very comfortable and happy back most of the time. So thank you again. Marie-Christine for such a lifestyle improvement.
