Injury Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy

Injury Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is used to recover from tears, sprains, and fractures safely and effectively. Injury rehabilitation doesn't only focus on injury recovery but also injury prevention, allowing return to function confidently.

Physical therapy is the specific application of soft tissue techniques, return to sport protocols, range of motion/flexibility protocol and strength-training principles to achieve a specific goal. Physical therapy focuses on gradual increases of training demands to bulletproof your body, making it stronger and more prepared for stress than before. The primary aim is to restore tissues back to their previous strength and target the potential causes of injury. Our practitioners use their understanding of the body and how it works and apply this through effective training management.

I recently injured myself; can I have a physical therapy straight away?

We always recommend that clients follow the PRICE principles; protect, rest, ice, compression, elevation.  Our rehabilitation specialist is able to assess injuries to determine likely diagnosis via a range of tests, the earlier you get diagnosed the better potential we give to the injury to heal well.
Although diagnosis can begin immediately, treatment will generally begin after the initial consult to allow time for inflammation to settle. Please do feel free to give us a call to discuss the injury and we can recommend treatment.

How often should I have physical therapy?

This depends on each individual and your reasons for therapy. It is generally recommended that weekly sessions occur during the early phase of injury recovery, as this is the most important and risky phase. Following, this the sessions may progress to being bi-monthly depending on needs and injury. Treatment programs and exercises prescriptions will be delivered to continue rehab even when at home.

What should I wear?

For the initial consult, shorts and a sports top are recommended. After this, any sports gear is good as we will be doing some exercise therapy and mobility work. Breathable is best!

Does Physical Therapy hurt?

Sometimes physical therapy can be a little uncomfortable.  Please remember that you are always in charge, so if you’re uncomfortable in any way please say and we’ll try a different approach.  It is not unusual to feel a little post exercise soreness for a day or two after a treatment. This is normal and shows that the treatment has had an effect – and that the body is healing. Common post physical therapy advice includes the RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) principle, drinking lots of water and recovery. If any pain goes above 4/10 and lasts for longer than 24 hours please get in touch,. Your practitioner will prescribe methods, which will aid you after your first treatment.
